As far as I remember being an update it was seamlessly installed with no prompts or communication. Are you trying to manually download developer tools for Silverlight version 3, which are more for developers than home users?

Please follow the Uninstall Instructions to remove any previous versions from your system and then visit the Silverlight Web site and install the latest version. Amazing -- can't even write up a quick "Here's what's wrong, here's how to fix it. I apologize but I'm pretty frustrated at this point. I've tried a million different things from a million different threads that have the same problem.
All the information I could possibly provide was stated in the original post. I was able to fix my problem somehow from a suggestion somewhere I can't remember. I simply extracted all the files from the silverlight. Fired up Netflix and Windows Media Center and both worked like a charm. Guess I had to do some real digging to find an answer. I should note that I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials but even with it off it still fails to install.
I don't see why MSE wouldn't play nice with its own products. As error message says, you may still haven't uninstall previous version of Silverlight completely. You can following the Antony's suggestion given here to uninstall it and then install the latest Silverlight from here.
Didn't read that entire post but when I came to Antony's post I had already performed those steps. That doesn't work. My post stated that the problem has YET to be resolved meaning that I still haven't fixed this problem. Here is a solution for error Glad to hear you were able to get this working. I'll contact you off-thread - there may still be some installation logs that we can look at to figure out what was wrong. The content you requested has been removed.
